Teacher Interviews

I have teaching positions that I have to fill, and I have been interviewing candidates for these positions. I have been asking them to discuss strategies on technology intergration in the classroom. It has been interesting to hear how some of them use it, and how some feel uncomfortable using it. The ones who were uncomfortable attributed it to lack of professional develoment. All of them felt that technology should be used as a tool along with other strategies. Basically the same things we have discussed in class.

Dear Rosalind,
I posted a comment to our professor on this topic of technology, as we know some educators are not TRAINED and feel inadequate. I have been learning so much regarding tech. via SPC grad school courses. I have a BA in History and 3 grad courses completed. At this point I am reflecting on the best academical path to navigate regarding employment. Possibly nursery school, teaching in women's prison, special education, or whatever opportunities present themselves. I may begin working asap. I have researched special ed. classes lately. Please email me- shswitz@yahoo.com Thank you, Norine

I feel for those who responded that they are uncomfortable to use technology due to lack of professional training. I really believe school administration should look further into the problem of lack of technology training for the teachers. The use of technology in school is something that educators cannot ignore and having the appropriate training for the teachers is really essential.

Thanks for sharing this experience, Rosalind. It is interesting to get your administrative take on these issues.

I have mentioned this before, but I feel that professional development needs to be ongoing to be successful. Often, initial trainings are conducted in Septmeber and never followed up on. This can leads to frustration and confusion.
